The history of medicine in colonial Brazil, and how it arrived in our land, carries with it a plethora of parallel records, almost never told in medical schools.
Research on the first medical treatise written for Brazilian lands includes diverse sources. Ancient documents and university theses were accessed, as well as books by historians and writers dedicated to our history (Lilia Moritz Schwarcz, Mary del Priore, Anita Novinski, Flávio Coelho Edler, Lira Neto, Flávio Mendes de Carvalho, and others).
This miscellany of migratory movements, voluntary or forced, across seas and lands, elucidates part of the past and present.
The need to materialize them resonated with the artist.
